This is my 25th Post on Alaska from Scratch. It’s been an amazing few weeks! I have been deeply honored and humbled by your support and how you’ve spread the word to 9 countries/regions and 30 States. I just can’t say thank you enough. I’d like to give a shout out to our neighboring readers in Canada and Russia, the newest areas to join the list. Also, a friendly “Ahoy!” to Australia, UK, France, and Asia. Thank you all for continuing to share recipes across the globe from my little corner of Alaska. And, I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a little love to my five top-reading States: Alaska, California, Arizona, Massachusetts, and Texas. A big, snowy Alaskan cyber hug coming straight at ya. Keep sharing the love.

What has been most exciting for me is getting comments and emails from you on how you’re making my recipes in your own kitchens. Just last night, I received a message from the East Coast with a photo and a glowing report of my Maple Sweet Potato Pie recipe. That just blessed my socks off! Your feedback is an encouragement to me, so keep up the comments and emails!

Now for the Giveaway. I am thrilled to be  giving away a 1lb bag of Starbucks Thanksgiving Blend whole-bean coffee along with an Alaska Starbucks collector’s travel mug! My daughter and I went out in -11 degrees this morning to get these in preparation for our big Giveaway because we’re just that excited about it. 25 Posts: A Giveaway

I definitely second the broccoli cheese soup idea, I was just thinking the other day that I wanted a good recipe for that. :) I would also like to see some fun twists on holiday deserts. :) Love this blog, your recipes and you!

Please make something with butternut squash. I have one setting on my counter and can't decide what to do with it. Any suggestions?

How about sweet potato fries or a pumpkin pancake recipe? BTW, I LOVE your blog! I love that I can learn new recipes and ideas while getting a taste of the Alaska I have grown to love so much! Hope you guys are enjoying your time there.

Fun ideas, Laurie! Yes, we love it here. I'm so pleased that you are enjoying the blog.

Umm, did you say NEGATIVE 11 degrees? Wow! Rev. Alaska, you are so fantastic and amazing. And I love your blog! Several years ago I had a super delicious butternut squash soup, and since then I've always wished that I could make some. But I would have no idea where to even begin. If you have butternut squash in your stores right now, maybe you could give it a try! I hope you're staying warm!

K, Wow, thank you for your kind words! Yes, it got all the way down to -12 earlier this week. Always another adventure waiting just around the corner. :-) My favorite butternut squash recipe I ever had was at Wildflower Bread Company in Prescott, Arizona. It was a butternut squash ravioli with walnut cream sauce and freshly grated nutmeg. Mmmm. Thanks for the suggestion and the happy memory that came with it.

How about that traditional green bean recipe with some healthy, tasty twist. I tried not to serve it one year and that didn't go over so well. It seems so bland to me, and if any is leftover it is just a glob of green bean mush. I have made your apple/cheddar salad with balsamic several times this week. LOVE the dressing!

I'm very pleased to hear you are enjoying the dressing and the salad, Susie! I like your suggestion about the green bean casserole, too. My husband doesn't care for the "traditional version" so I, too, would like to find a good alternative.

Maya, It's such a joy for me to read your postings and everyone's comments. It's enticed me to do Thanksgiving dinner myself this year so I can try some of these great ideas. I am proud beyond words.......... Mom

Kate- I just watched that episode last week and thought "what if Miss Alaska could recreate the sandwich with the moist-maker? is that sandwich even possible?" LOL

Actually, I'll be unoriginal and say that I can't get maple scones off the brain. Sounds fabulous! Hi, cute mama. :) Had trouble with your site first time around, but I think I was able to subscribe. I have a friend up there in the wild frontier, too. I'll see if I can hook her up with your blog. Great job with it!

Hello friend! I have enjoyed reading... and even tried the Lentil Soup- it turned out pretty well! I would love to see a broccoli/cheddar soup recipe. I have failed miserably at every recipe I have ever tried. :) Hugs to you, M

M, Hugs back! I have one I like and I saw a new one last week that I'd like to try as well. I may make both and see which I like best, since I'd really like to see you find success in this particular area we call broccoli cheese soup! M

"I wanna WIN".. Nacho Libre So..hmm, a proper and easy gravy, or pumpkin soup, or something you'd find at an Alaskan Thanksgiving!

I would like to do something original with sweet potatoes.

Alaska from Scratch

How do you typically make them, Kathleen?

Kathleen E.

I've made them simply roasted with butter, I tried the traditional with marshmallows (family doesn't care for it) and the one that we have used for the last few years is sweet potatoes with apples and walnuts, mixed & baked tender.

I would love to have a recipe using the leftovers. We love to make a sandwich but it would be fun to see a new twist. I always think of Monica's sandwich from Friends with the moist maker.

So, I got the new Food Network Magazine yesterday, open it up, and it is FULL of turkey sandwich ideas with a twist! Kate, apparently you're on to something here! :-)

Yeah! Would love a yummy new sandwich to create with leftovers.

pumpkin smumpkin, it's all about dessert with cream and sugar. I'm working on "my" version of a holiday creme brulee. How about you?

Dude...Idk, make chocolate break like at con pane... I just want that cup and the coffee, not gonna lie...

I've never had the chocolate bread at Con Pane. What's it like? Maybe I'll see if they have an online menu and read a description.

As much as I love traditional Thanksgiving recipes, I would love a recipe involving leftover turkey, and one which does NOT involve a can of condensed soup (some sort of creamy casserole). I'm doing Thanksgiving myself this year for the first time in years and I don't want my turkey to dry out in the refrigerator! It would be so great to have an idea for what to do with it so the ingredients will be on hand, and meals can be low-stress for the entire weekend.
