Weather: 31 degrees, windy
What I’m listening to: A Thousand Years, Christina Perri (slightly obsessed with this song)
We used to order Strawberry Limeades from the Sonic Drive-Ins in California. It was a refreshing treat that we thoroughly enjoyed. When the drink was gone, we’d remove the lid and fish out the chunks of strawberries from the ice with our straws.
I had several cute, juicy little key limes leftover from when I made the popular Key Lime Cake with ombre frosting last week and I didn’t want them to go to waste. I decided to make my own homemade Strawberry Key Limeades. The key lime elevates this drink to something even better than the original. Key limes, for me, have a hint of vanilla paired with bright acidity. We were thrilled with our homemade version. Rather than using up our leftover limes, we may have just invented an excuse to have to keep buying more instead. Oh darn.
Strawberry Key Limeade
- What you will need:
- key limes
- lemon-lime soda
- frozen sliced strawberries with sugar, mostly thawed, but very cold
Take an 8oz glass and, into the bottom, squeeze the juice of one key lime, straining the seeds. Toss lime wedges into the glass. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of the frozen strawberries with their juices. Fill the cup with ice. Pour lemon-lime soda over ice until nearly full. Add one more heaping tablespoon of strawberries to the top of the drink. Swirl. Drink. Repeat.
