Since we’re getting closer to St. Patrick’s Day, I thought it was time to introduce you to this Irish Cream-flavored smoothie wonder. When I was in college in San Diego, there was this tiny little smoothie shop in Point Loma that served an espresso smoothie with bananas and Irish Cream syrup. If you’re thinking bananas with Irish Cream and coffee sounds nuts, it’s fabulously and deliciously nuts. It was the most genius, cold, caffeinated pick-me-up concoction. I had a hard time driving anywhere near this shop and not stopping to buy one. I’m pretty sure the sweet South African woman who owned the place knew me by name. I just loved this smoothie and I’ve never since seen another menu item like it. I am excited to say that I have successfully replicated it here for you.

Irish Cream Espresso & Banana Smoothie

Yields: 1 12oz smoothie

  • 2c vanilla frozen yogurt or vanilla ice cream, softened
  • 1 banana
  • 1-2 shots of cold espresso (or 2 ounces cold brewed coffee)
  • 1T Irish Cream flavored syrup (such as Torani)

Place all ingredients together in a blender. Whirl until smooth. Serve immediately.
