Buttermilk Dressing

Homemade dressing is really tasty, lip-smacking stuff. My kids are big fans of ranch dressing. For salads, for dipping… veggies, chicken strips, pizza… everything seems to taste better with ranch. This homemade buttermilk dressing is similar to ranch, but with a twist, a twist that my kids don’t notice but the adults in my house really appreciate. We all enjoy it and I get the added satisfaction of not having to buy dressing in a bottle.  A drizzle here, a schmear there. A little bit goes a long way to adding some serious flavor and a little cooling creaminess to just about anything. Over the past week I’ve eaten it on green salad and taco salad (probably my fav – a recipe to share another day), drizzled it inside a burrito in lieu of sour cream (yum), and dipped my pizza crust in it (yep, yum again).

Buttermilk Dressing

  • 1/2c sour cream
  • 1/2c mayonnaise
  • 1/2c buttermilk
  • 3T green onions, chopped fine
  • 3T cilantro, chopped fine
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1T fresh lime juice
  • pinch of cayenne pepper
  • salt and pepper to taste... but generously

Whisk all ingredients until smooth.

Refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.

Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
